CONTEST 63CS BEST IN THE BAY!
CONTEST 63CS BEST IN THE BAY!
After a full three years in design and build, we’re pleased to report delivery of the first of our all-new, beautiful Contest 63CS, which is now turning heads in the Med, sailing out of Palma in a display of enviable styling and design. We’ve more in build and it’s easy to see the appeal. This is truly a new ‘super’ yacht for 2024.
Optimised to be owner-managed and owner-sailed courtesy of the finest design, engineering and outfitting in this luxury performance cruising sector, the new three- and four-cabin plan 19-metre Contest 63CS presents a whole new way to view top-level yachting operation and ownership. Superyachting conventionally tends to mean not just ‘super’ standards of luxury performance but also the complications at those upper sizes of sailing with paid professional crew, a practice that active sailing owners are increasingly downsizing away from. The Contest 63CS specifically addresses this shift. With this brand-new 19-metre model, family and friends can here now more easily enjoy all the benefits of ‘superyachting’ without the involvement or intrusion of additional paid hands. Although, for those wanting for reasons of charter or assisted passage making, there is still the option of an additional crew cabin forward in the bow without impacting the principal suites. And those suites are really quite something! MORE THAN GEOMETRY In this newly configured hull and interior arrangements, for the very first time at this size in this sector, naval architects judel/vrolik & co and the Contest design-engineering team have imaginatively and innovatively created shell-volume for two spacious identical double guest suites forward of the mast, these complementing the expansive, full beam and tall aft master suite. This is not just a show of great geometry, it’s a true rare treat, the owner now free to offer guests aboard equal luxury in two suites, so no-one ends with second best. Everyone’s a VIP! For younger families, of course, guest cabins can be bunked, too.
Additionally, further forward for those not requiring quite so much stowage or workshop space in the bow, there’s the option of a third double guest suite. Throughout, as can be seen in the pictures here, all of this is in the lap of remarkable luxury, shaped, styled and dressed by leading interior designers Wetzels Brown Partners. A star in superyacht design, this Amsterdam studio and long-time Contest partner is currently also working on the world’s largest ever sloop, the 85-metre Project 410 in build at Royal Huisman. That expertise together with the renowned in-house skills of Contest Yachts all makes for a very impressive pedigree for the new model Contest 63CS, the only yacht sitting right on this sweet spot for owners wanting the optimum under their own control. INFORMED AND INSPIRING The principles of yacht operation are ever evolving at Contest, continually informing and inspiring simple but sophisticated short-handed sailing systems, which here include the choice of beautifully simplified in-boom or in-mast reefing. In-boom for more performance sail shape, from full sail to reefed. In-mast for even more simply managed speedy reefing. And in both options all lines, now including halyards, are led aft for complete pedestal and cockpit control. For further ease there is also the option of self-tacking jib, and to further match individual sailing style and intentions, there is the prime choice of carbon or aluminium spars with, up front, Code 0 or Helix furling incorporated within the integral bowsprit, plus a removable inner forestay and, depending on spec, twin underdeck-furling headsail systems.
And of course, right the way through the weather spectrum - that’s light airs as well as heavy - it’s high performance at every level with consistent good speeds, comfortable angles of heel and low sound levels inside and out. All due to our expert ways in design and construction, including light, strong and stiff composite structures all single-shot vacuum infused, and our half-century long close collaboration with Lloyd’s Register. A combination unique in our semi-custom sector. HIGHEST SPECIFICATION Leading into this new sweet spot, Contest Yachts has long experience in serving up easily managed, robust rigs with high-end specification throughout from winches, deck gear and lines to sails, spars, standing rigging and ground tackle. Powered systems with fingertip operation, all set within reach of the helm pedestals and working areas adding even more to ease and confidence. And on this new 63CS, everything really can be handled back in the working area, tidily behind the walk-through leisure guest cockpit that forward leads down into the super spacious saloon and professional-standard galley. Simple, quick and safe – relaxing, lifestyle sailing at its best – and definitely the best-looking boat in the bay. Absolute top quality is key at Contest Yachts, an essential part of the shipyard’s 360° Performance Promise which is about more than just speed through the water. It’s about comfort and security, both personal and financial. While others increasingly cut corners, Contest Yachts continues to go the extra mile to deliver the sector’s best built yachts.
