DESIGNER TALK
Helping shape the dreams we build together, our design partners judel/vrolijk & co and Wetzels Brown Partners draw on long and strong experience in engineering, architecture and creativity. The size and scale of the Contest 85CS presents new and exciting scope.
“YOU MUST TURN DOZENS OF LOOPS TO ARRIVE WHERE WE HAVE... THE RESULT OF MUCH HARD WORK!”
- Rolf Vrolijk -
FINDING THE BALANCE
Rolf Vrolijk of judel/vrolijk & co says, “Since beginning with Contest we‘ve evolved the hull with finer lines in the bow and more beam aft. This finds the best balance, not over-rimming the fore and aft volume distribution, and so improving overall performance, especially upwind. We’ve also minimised wetted surface for light wind performance, straightening the lines, looking for a smooth waterflow, and reducing hull rocker, and refining the main section. All clear logical steps, but you must turn dozens of loops to arrive where we have ... the result of much hard work!“
“THE DRIVE FROM THE BEGINNING WAS TO CREATE A YACHT INTERIOR THAT REALLY LOOKS AFTER THE GUESTS AT SEA.”

THE INSIDE VIEW
Gillian Brown of Wetzels Brown Partners says, "This is a sailing yacht for any weather. The drive from the beginning was to create a yacht interior that really looks after the guests at sea from the security of movement through to the tiniest design detail. A place for everything and everything in its place. From tools to glassware, the storage was meticulously thought through. This approach and attention is a credit to Contest Yachts.
"WE ARE SHOWING IN THIS NEW LAUNCH THAT WE REALLY CAN GO FAR. NOTHING IS LEFT TO CHANCE."
- Arjen Conijn -
OPTIMISING THE PERSONAL APPROACH
Arjen Conijn, third generation CEO of this family owned shipyard and innovator, says, “While some semi-custom builders are reducing the opportunity to truly personalise, we are showing in this 26-metre Contest 85CS that we really can go far. We call it building dreams together. Everything is absolutely optimised to meet the commissioning owner's personal requirements. Nothing is left to chance. And it is so great seeing a true bluewater cruiser this size manoeuvring in and out of moorings under mainsail alone … no engine, just like a dinghy!”
Building dreams together... the Contest 85CS could well be the dream you know you want. Make it yours!
